Salisbury

Lower Sals

how is that area for easy trails?

I never really get a good vibe from that area. maybe it would be different now.

(just posting here in new thread to prevent thread drift in the trail conditions topic)

If we has easy trails down there I'm sure folks would ride them

Hiked Sals tonight

was gonna ride but the rain changed my mind and headed over to Sals for a hike.I looked at a little trail add-on that would replace the very last section of the nursery trail after the boulders. The more I looked at it, I just couldn't get it together in my head.Plus, when I was there Mike ripped passed on the existing line and it looked like a legitimate thing. Rather than just replacing this little section that crosses the powerline, I came up with the idea of adding a whole new trail!

Sals hike-around tonight 6PM

If you are interested in trailwork we're gonna do a bit of a hike around the upper Consitution area tonight at Sals at 6PM.

The main goal is to look at the area above the boulder trail where we hope to build two more sections of the "girly man" trail. This area of Sals is pretty open without a ton of spicebush so the view will be good and the hike easy.

If there is enough time we can also go over and hike the rim trail that we were working on this week and maybe the upper red where it drops into the woods .

More TW on the QRT today

Greg was over at Sals today doing what Greg does best-creating a cloud of chainsaw fumes in the woods while swinging his chainsaw and annihilating all brush in his way!. I helped out a bit on this trail before bailing to go chase some guitars.

At first I thought this thing kind of sucked-i just didn't have the vision.

Sals hike this Wed

Talked to greggie and we might do a Sals hike-around this Wednesday in the early afternoon.

The goal is to look around at some ideas for new trails and trail extensions for the upcoming fall/winter trailbuilding season. We can look at these ideas over the summer and then decide which ones to work on when the cooler weather arrives.

if you are interested in checking this out, post a reply and we'll come up with a time. These weekday things can be tentative do to work schedules but it should fly.

The Green Monster is history

I made my payment to the karma bank today. Stopped at Sals and hacked through the viney green monster blocking the west side of the yellow trail.

This was one rotted 6inch branch with a jillion vines that fell and took the vines down with it. It was so massive it blocked out the sun as well as the trail.

Working on a Sals "S" turn

Just a small warning-I'm gonna do a bit of touch-up on one of the second "S" turns past the VW seat(that isn't there anymore near the top of the quarry) on the upper red trail. There are two of these turns in succession and after these turns there is the real big rock you can ride over. This will be done over the next week or so as time and weather permits.

Another groovy trail idea for Sals

I spent some time hiking the "no man's land"today over sat Sals, as John E calls it.

Of course, I'm so inspired by this terrain and vibe that I want to build a trail there. Hopefully the club will show interest in this trail idea and eventually decide to go ahead with it.

I'm talking about the area below the big rock you all stop at when you do all the climbing on the ridge-up the spanky, then up the switchbacks, to the the top past the little switchback and the climbing rock garden to the big rock where you stop and spit out a lung.

SALS LOCATION/TRAILS

Can someone possible help me? I tried to find Sals today and I think I did. I ended up near railroad tracks and a little parking lot. There also was a sign that did in deed say Walking Purchase Park. My question is, how do know what trail I'm on? I did see a little red square on a tree, but where are the other trails, like yellow and i think orange? Is there anyone that is going to be riding Sals in the near future that would be willing to show a beginner the ropes/trails?
