Salisbury trailbuilding plans

Spring is here and the nice weather riding season is underway. We have been quite busy over the past several months continuing with our trail building project at the Walking Purchase park.

Most of our effort has gone into adding some new trail in the area near the boulder trail. This is an extension of the bypass trail that is there now, designated blue. Building this trail has been difficult due to the rocky terrain and it is now rideable. As it is now this represents only a portion of what the trail will become in the future. Thankfully, we have completed the hardest part.

New site for "borrow hole"

Today I did a bit of a hike over at Sals. Of course I hiked where we are working on the blue extension and did a bit of trailwork there. I saw a bunch of riders, and pulled out a few jagged rocks. The big discovery of the day was a clay mound source right near the second last insloped turn.

This turn currently doesn't have an inslope because we couldn't get a good source for clay fill close by the turn. Anyhow the clay is about 20 feet uphill from the turn and is marked with some orange flags. In case any of you insloped turn builders had the bug to head over there.

Sals trailwork day changed to this Saturday

Please note our trailwork session at Sals is changed from Sunday to this Saturday. Same start time of 11am.Meet up at the top on Constitution to work on the Blue bypass extension.

Weather considerations make Sunday the best day to ride and Saturday the best day for trail work hence the change.

So you even have less excuses not to show up for trailbuilding this weekend! "But its really the only nice day to ride this weekend (Sunday)" will no longer cut it as an excuse not to show up and work on the trails everyone rides.

Changes -one of the turns on the upper red

I was over at Sals today doing some work on the upper red trail pretty close to refrigerator alley where it eventually joins the orange.

The real sharp hairpin that goes by the big rock and then turns right at a log pile up is a little different. It should flow a lot better now. Things are a little different there so be careful!I didn't try it with my bike and no riders came by so I don't know if it'll be smooth going or you get sucked into an endless borrow hole or wack a stump!I guess we'll find out.

Monday Sals

This weekend was a wipeout for any trailwork at Sals. A few of us might work over there tomorrow in the early afternoon. Most likely on the yellow. I might go riding somewhere too-weather looks good.

Higher ordered state of trailworking at Sals today

Sometimes, as hard as you might try, you just can't do a 3 Stooges - Laurel and Hardy cartoon style trailworking day.

For some reason, everything went smoothly today at Sals. We had a great turnout of something like 16 people, and we were able to split up into two groups without wasting an hour BSing and figuring out what to do while standing around.

Salisbury Trailwork plan for Sunday 2-24. Meet at St Lukes. 11am

WE'RE MEETING AT THE ST LUKES DIALYSIS CENTER at 11AM !

Here is the game plan-please show up if you can. There is about 4" of snow in the woods so dress appropriately.

We'll see who shows up and then see if we split into 2 groups. On the SL side we'll clear a tree near St Lukes and head over towards the red/yellow junction to brushcut a trail. If enough people show, a crew may split off and head over to the area near the boulder trail by Consitution. Otherwise we'll head over to the top over Constitution when we're done by St Lukes.

Nippy on the bippy!

Rode at the big S today. Trails were a little snowy on the north side which made for some fast smooth sailing...great riding conditions if you don't mind or are dressed for the cold.
Was a bit discouraged though to see a truck with what looked like an ATV or cycle trailer parked in the lower lot. Also drove past 4 ATVs coming up Constitution as I was going down to head home.
