Sals Sat hike

the weather looks rather iffy for riding Saturday so I may do a short hike over at Sals to look at some new trail ideas. The area to check out is the creek area near Consitution and the yellow bridge. Might also check out the new S H E trail to see what rain does to it. No set time but sometime early afternoon. Depends on conditions.

Hiking at Sals today

Doing a hike from dodson over to Constitution to look at the powerline crossing for a new trail idea.Gonna meet John E over there at 4. Leaving Dodson at 3:30.

Some really cool stuff at the powerline by the road. You just never see it cause there is so much brush. hopefully this can be turned into a killer trail section.

Dead Animal and Tires

Just finished a ride at Sals with some friends from Pitts. & Cali. was showing them around when first we came across tires that were dumped at the bottom of the red trail right before constitution. Second we crossed constitution at the top of the spanky climb heading east and found a dead racoon in the middle of the trail, problem is the racoon was skinned.

Creek trail madness

hiked over to the creek from Dodson today. This time john was over there and we looked at some more lines in the creek area. Now its down to only one small dtwtftd area above the powerline. John, surprisingly came up with a pretty cool line near the yellow bridge. This in conjunction with what Joe and I came up with the other day makes it look totally do-able.

So, the flagging will start soon in this area and then the interested parties can give it a look and see if we start on this trail towards the end of september.

another hike at Sals

Did another like hike over at Sals to check for build-able stuff in the creek area for a new trail that will use the Eberhard switchback.

One way of describing the progress is that I have it down to only two small parts I don't know WTF to do with instead of 2 big parts!

Another homeless guy and paintball at Sals

I did a hike over at sals today on the dodson side. Lately this area has been interesting me with the idea of building some more stuff over there. There is additional land between the cool yellow trail and the reservoir area, and it is the good stuff with regular trees and no sticker madness.Of course, the challenge is to make everything fit together into a grand flowing loop, not just a bunch of "options" that confuse the hell out of you.Not as easy as you think with a limited amount of space over there.

Need Sals GPS data

I finally got the Google Earth upgrade that allows you to do maps using GPS data. If anyone has data from the sals trails I'd like to use it to make some maps . I've seen some examples of this for other trails and the results are great.

If you see Bill, tell him "Thanks ! "

If you happen to run across Bill over at Sals let him know that you appreciate all of the work he's put in over there.

Bill is retired, in his 60's, and has been over at Sals several times a week this Summer clearing the brush along the trails and hacking through some of the un-rideable logs that fell across the trail.Because of his efforts we have been spared this maintenance work. In the last few years I believe we scheduled two days just to clear brush along several areas of the trails in the summertime.

Did another Sals hike

tonight to look at the proposed upper creek trail some more.

This is a trail that will cross the powerline closer to constitution than the existing trail does. Anyhow John and I checked this out and it gets favorable reviews. This trail will cross the powerline and wind back and forth across the creek a few times while picking its way through and over some pretty big boulders. It will hook into the unused log trail that climbs up to John's switchback and back to the upper red.Has a kind of a American Standard/South mountain Emmaus vibe, which can't be a bad thing.
