Hey folks,
Screwing around in the snow these last few days and I made a point to lower the pressure on my tires per the usual advice pro traction and handling.
I am at least 275lbs and 6'1"ish.I am running a Conti Mountain King up front and a brand new Kenda Klaw XT on the rear of my hardtail Specialized 29er.
What are you running in the back for our local stuff? Type and size? Thx!
Hi folks,
I am interested in any thoughts you might have on the topic of bending derailleur hangers.
This afternoon I bent the ("permanent") hanger on my chromo frame. I did not notice until I had pitched my chain into the rear spokes. Looking carefully, I could see that the derailleur wheels were not aligned and, further, that my hanger appeared to bent slightly inward from directly vertical.
So.... I removed the derailleur and took a wrench to it. I believe that I succeeded in bending it back to vertical and function is mostly proper, with some new roughness.
Does anyone know of a place locally I could get a frame stripped and re-coated? Its steel so it can be media blasted w/o issues, and I'm just looking for a single color coating. Thanks!
I have a question I was hoping someone could help me with. I'd like to start getting into mountain biking, but I'm not sure what kind of bike to get, or where is a good place to purchase it. I realize there are a lot of different options depending upon what I want to do and how much I'm willing to spend. Currently I have a road bike, so I don't want hybrid or anything like that, I want a bike that I can take up and down trails and have a lot of fun with. Also since this is a new sport for me so I don't want to spend ton of money just to get started.
I'm looking for suitable bikes for my 2 boys. They are extremely hard on gear and can break stuff like a wrecking crew. With that having been said, I'm looking for a 24" wheeled dirt jump style STP/P1 type with a single chain ring and a rear cassette derailer so they can ride the trails a little easier. I would love to just get them 24" mountain bikes and Keep their BMX bikes but I just don't have room for all that. Maybe Jay could build a 24" frame EWR that would solve this. Then you could race the cruiser class at the BMX track.
Was out riding today in the rain, while on a trail full of leaves went into a turn with my front brakes on and the bike slid out on me. If i had some anti lock brakes on my bike it would not have slid out. They have them on cars why not on bikes what do you think?
I just replaced my rear tire since it was very worn and not providing adequate traction.
So the rear is now some very knobby Specialized chunky thing. And the front is now a slightly worn Bontrager with a very different tread and narrower width.
Should I go with the same tire up front or is it better to run something slightly less aggressive up front?
Thanks in advance folks.
Interested in opinions on bike headlights. Not at all familiar with them but would like to know what to consider when purchasing. A few online companies have them for around $30 but not sure if they are even worth it. Thanks for any and all info.
