Bike Tools for the (lacking) Home Mechanic

I'm ordering a boatload of bike-specific tools (cassette, crank, etc.). Will probably order Park Tool simply because I like their stands and have used a lot of their tools. Open to suggestions though. Everything's coming in pro deal so I'm open to pretty much anything (except the damned $400 torque wrench...I'm not getting that).

What's on your Santa List?

Since the chatter's been a little slow lately I thought I'd share my list with folks and see what others have on their lists.

My list is pretty modest this year:

New Fork - Already bought it for myself - had to take advantage of a killer deal before it was gone. It's a Marzocchi 44 TST2 130-150mm
1 set Oury Lock On's
1 new brake lever to replace bent one
1 new Maxxis High Roller to put on the front, and the old front goes on back, and old back gets tossed
1 pack of quick links to add to the multiple quick links already on my chain

Winter Storage

Well as much as it will pain me not to able to ride in the dead of winter, I can use that time to clean up my bike and do some maintenance for the 2011 season.

My question is this, what is the best way to keep everything fresh as it snows outside. I have some bike racks (hooks) which mount to the floor joist, but that would but some pressure on the front forks at it dangles for 3 months. What are my other options?

Thank you

Kevin Boyle

WTB Weirwolf 2.55 LT

I'm long winded to get to my point but bear with me:

When i purchased a used bike this past summer ( a 2009 Trek Fuel Ex 6.5 ), It came with a pair of the 2.1 Kenda nevegal Stick-e tires. Riding them regularly throughout the summer I noticed what most people do with these tires, that they were wearing down FAST, eventually, knobs started shearing off the rear tire and it was time to start shopping around. I saw a review for the Specialized Clutch 2.35 tires over at Pinkbike and as I had been wanted a beefier tire, I thought these would be a perfect fit for my next tire.

The 26er is dead, long live the 26er!

Came across this and thought it would be good to spark some "conversation"

http://singletrack.competitor.com/2010/10/features/taming-the-29er-trend...

I know I've made fun of the 29ner while out on group rides, and even eventually chose a 26er as my new ride but I was giving the 29ner a serious look and joking aside have nothing really bad to say.

Tech question of the week - front derailer

looking for some help with my front shifter/derailer. A while back I had my bike in the shop to fix a bent dropout/rear derailer hanger. The mechanic took the liberty of "helping" me out by adjusting my front derailer/shifter so it wouldn't shift up to the big ring - I was running a rock ring at the time and didn't mind so much. I thought he simply adjusted one of the stop screws to prevent the up-shift so I never thought to ask exactly how he achieved this magical feet.
