Lights, who has what? EDIT: Hey Magicshine users...

I am about to pull the trigger on a light. I must do it quick while it is still impulsive, because I probably shouldn't be doing it. But as of right now I have it in my head that it's a great idea that will let me spend more time with my family. Or something.

I noticed that lights seem to be either "really cheap Chinese stuff" or "expensive", there seems to be no in between?

I was thinking that the Lupine Piko might fit the bill- plus mounting an inexpensive light on my handlebars.

Advice on Apps?

I finally have a new smartphone. It's a Samsung Infuse 4G and I want to put some apps on it for mountain biking.

Does anyone have any suggestions on 'must have' GPS apps, trailfinder apps, etc.

Considering building a new bike....

So, I'm expecting to have some extra funds available October/November....and I was thinking about building up a new bike.

I obviously like 29ers, since I currently ride one, unfortunately I don't ride it very well. I'm not opposed to going back to small wheels. There are clearly advantages to both.

I am also a hardtail fan, the simplicity is appealing to me. I want to find something that will handle our local trails well, but will be versatile enough to ride at places like White Clay or Raystown that are less technical.

Strider and other prebikes

Does anyone have another brand of prebike that isn't wood? I'm talking about like the Giant Pre or the Specialized Hotwalk? I think Norco makes one too. Probably others.

I was thinking it might be better to source one locally from an LBS, wondering all of these are pretty much the same or if there are some that are nicer. I read a review comparing the Strider to a Performance prebike and the Strider weighed like 3 pounds less or something, which is probably huge for a little person.

Bike Trailers

For those that are not members of VHEMT :ihih: and have procreated little carbon emission generators I wanted to see if anyone had any recommendations or thoughts on bike trailers.

I plan on using the bike trailer for my one year old on paved paths and rail trails. I have done some research and it seems like you can either go with a mass produced generic trailer like a Bell,Yakima, or Schwinn trailer ($200ish) or go to a higher end trailer like a Chariot or Burley ($500ish). Is there a significant difference between them and I am risking my little guy's livelihood by going cheaper??

Wanted: GoPro advice

Need a new camera & am considering GoPro. Really want a decent camera, the GoPro's 5 megapixel stills is enough, I think & the bonus of video kinda makes sense.

The cheapest I see is HD HERO 960 - $179.99. Any real advantage to go with HD Helmet HERO - $299.99 instead?

Flat Toobless Tire noooob

Sorry....tubless noob question....I got a small hole(larg thorn size) in my tubless, but the hole is big enough that the tubless selant isnt sealing it. What do you usually do? Put a tube in there? Patching with a patch kit? The tire is still good so no need to get a new tire at this point.

Brake upgrade

I ordered my hydration pack and received my rack for my truck, but now........

After riding my entry level Haro V1 for a couple weeks I am sure of one thing......I HATE my brakes. They are the simple cantilever brakes.
The Haro V1 is a 7spd.
To get a level better brake set-up about how much am I looking to spend?(if it is like $300 or more than I will just save for a new bike)
How do I know which styles are compatible?
Is this the upgrade to make or am I missing a more valuable one?

Maybe just new and better pads and cables??

Hydration Pack Options

Time for me to get a hydration pack, looking for some user input on my options.
After some reading I am down to four brands and most likely only one style from each brand.
(no particular order)

-Camelbak MULE ($59)

-Camelbak MULE NV ($105)

-Dakine Drafter ($79)

-Osprey Raptor (14, maybe 10) ($109 -or- $99)

-Wingnut Hyper (3.0, maybe 2.5) ($120 -or- $109)

1. All of them carry 100oz of water, which is more than I will ever drink on my ~30min-75min rides.
