Because where would we be without trails?

Mike Vandeman Busted For Assault

I don't know if anyone here remembers Mike Vandeman, but he's been an anti-MTB internet crank since like the Usnet era. He was busted the other day for assault with a deadly weapon -- he attacked two trail cyclists with a hand saw. Apparently the attack happened a few weeks ago, and they weren't too badly hurt, but they went to the police after hearing stories of similar attacks, and they identified him from a photo.

Pisgah/Switchback Trail In Jeopardy in Jim Thorpe

VMB Peeps:

I urge you to take a minute to write Mr. Taggart an email concerning this. You could mention: The idea of outdoor, passive recreation and that this timing is particularly peculiar -- considering that entire country is currently beginning to understand the importance of accessibility to this very sort of trail; The need for more trails to promote physical fitness in children and adults, etc. -- or whatever you see fit to say. If you take your family to Jim Thorpe and enjoy the trail -- mention it!

Volunteer to help a child with special needs learn to ride a bike!

LOSE THE TRAINING WHEELS CAMP is coming to the Lehigh Valley to help children and young adults, ages 8 and up, with special needs achieve the amazing skill of riding a two-wheel bike. This rite of passage that is nearly standard for typically-developing children, is often out of reach for many kids with disabilities, and they are left on the sidelines while their peers enjoy the joy and freedom of riding their bikes.

Publicly Accessible Pump Track just across the river

Bob Adase from JORBA contacted VMB about sharing this news with VMB members.
JORBA is poised to begin construction of NJ's first public pump track. The link below tells the story and lists work dates.
Just the drawing of it gets me excited. Very, very cool!

(Jason, looks like this is especially close to you!)
