We received the following request for volunteer help. The woman that sent the request works for Lehigh County and knows VMB through the Sals trash cleanup days that she helped to organize.

New PA law requires motorists to leave a 4-foot "cushion of safety" when passing a bicyclist...

HARRISBURG - A law that sets new rules for Pennsylvania motorists to follow when encountering a bicyclist takes effect on Monday morning. The law, designed to improve safety and traffic flow, was signed by Governor Tom Corbett on Feb. 2.

The new law requires motorists to leave a 4-foot "cushion of safety" when passing a bicyclist. To achieve this cushion, drivers may cross a roadway's center line when passing a bicycle on the left, but only when opposing traffic allows. Drivers attempting to turn left must also yield the right of way to bicycle riders traveling in the opposite direction.

Would you say it to the person's face?

Rule 1: Remember the human

The golden rule your parents and your kindergarten teacher taught you was pretty simple: Do unto others as you'd have others do unto you. Imagine how you'd feel if you were in the other person's shoes. Stand up for yourself, but try not to hurt people's feelings.

In cyberspace, we state this in an even more basic manner: Remember the human.

Rattling Creek Trail Work - Fix the Bridge!

Hey all, the Rattling Creekers are replacing a big ass bridge this coming Sunday that was washed downstream in that hurricane a few months back. Work in the AM and then get in a sweet ride in the afternoon on those IMBA Epic approved trails maybe?

Here are some deets:

Here's the official word from the Rattling Creekers:

--------------------------------

All,

The bridge retrieval is definitely going to happen on December 4. We will
meet at the west end of Doc Smith Trail. This is the end nearest the
intersection of Doc Smith and Rattling Creek Trails. We're not quite at 20,

Help Preserve Trails and Parks Funding in 60 Seconds

Open space. City parks. Thousands of miles of singletrack across all 50 states. If you value those things, you will take just 60 seconds to help IMBA support the Land and Water Conservation Fund (LWCF). All you have to do is sign a petition.

The petition asks the Obama Administration to fully and permanently fund the LWCF and its work buying open space and helping cities and counties build parks, many of which contain mountain bike trails and are in your own backyard.
