Salisbury

sticker hell trail

Wow. This weather really sucks. Especially for a trailwork freek like me. This week I've gone over to Sals 2x and walked out the new section we worked on a few weeks ago. Can't ride it, can't work on it. That trail is gonna be great though. We picked a great line where you start heading downhill...

Sals trails 3/12 Please stay off for awhile!!

I was over at Sals today nailing the orange trail markers in place. I was shocked at how sloppy that area is from all of the ice thawing. There are some places on the orange trail that you would sink into mud 6" deep! Plus that access at St. Lukes is looking really rough(which ain't good).Whoever rode in this area left ruts 6" deep. Remember, Sals is not like S Mtn Bethlehem as it is the last to dry up. So do us all a favor and please stay off of the trails at Sals for a while. Thanks

In addition to kiosks, how about trail name signs. These would be placed at the beginning and end of each distict "named" trail. You would need two signs per trail, one at each end, facing opposite directions. I think this would be cool so people know what trail they are really on in perspective to a map with trail names and add more of the "park" feel to the place.

Today Sals hike-n-slide

Today there was some West side hiking going on at Sals. Me, Greg and John hiked for about 2 hours on the Western side getting a look at the terrain. You might think its crazy to walk on an ice covered hillside and you're right! One of the favored techniques was the sit and slide-where, when you thought it was too hairy to walk you had a seat and let gravity and low friction take over.

Anyhow we got a good look at the lower line above the road out to the extreme western end. We did notice nice touches like a tree stand 50 feet from a deer feeder!

More Sals stuff this weekend

Howdy. Depending on the weather and conditions this weekend there may be a small trialwork effort at Sals. I know everyone probably wants to get out and ride a little but it will probably be sloppy everywhere-maybe too sloppy to ride in the afternoon. This might be a way to get out of the house an into the woods if there is no riding.

The Nursery trail

You all know the nursery trail-you cross the road after the muddy part of the upper red trail, go onto that crappy jeep road/atv trail with stickers aiming for your arms, and then hang a hard left onto an awesome fast section.Well, today out of total boredom I went over and hiked through the sticker jungle to try and find a way to bypass the jeep road, and lay in some interesting trail.

Sals walk

I did a little Sals walk today to check out those boulders over on the West side. All I can say is that these are the most enormous rocks I've ever seen. There is even a weird little thing that looks like it could be in Stonehedge. I took some pics with my cell phone. How you get the pics out of the phone and post them is a mystery to me however.

If you were on the hike, this area is below the fancy tree fort-hunter stand we saw. Its possible that we could get a trail down to these rocks. The side slope is pretty major but we could do something.

Grants

Anybody feel like writing a grant request up for Salisbury?

That place could definitely use some money. The Western side that we hiked on does not even have signage of any kind that identifies it as a park. We been talking about adding post type trail markers to the trails, but also signs identifying ATV and MXbikes as not being welcome.

Then there is the infamous kiosk that we'll build someday.

Also, I looked at how communities deal with the ATV problem. One solution was to get a grant for additional policing to specifically go after ATV's!.
