Because where would we be without trails?

Re-Discover the City of Allentown

I just got a request in the mail from Greg Weitzel, head of Allentown Parks and Rec for input from our Club and free advertisement to be included in their 80,000 brochures to be distributed with the Morning Call.
For instance, Allentown Hiking Club is listed along with their agenda, meetings, etc. CAT is in as well. Now VMB has the opportunity to be included.
Nice!

Gathering steam

It seems our Club and our efforts are making serious progress. Its exciting that we now have the possibility of more land at Sals and trail design at Trexler.
Possibilities yes, but Sals was only a possibility a few years ago.
A year and a half ago we almost vaporized and yet he we are not only being noticed but being asked.

Lets get that proposal together for SECTV.

Trailbuilders Wanted

In case you haven't noticed there are some great trail building projects in the works or proposed for the Lehigh Valley area.

The Salisbury project is going strong in its 3rd year with something like upwards of 6000 hours of volunteer time so far! We've built a little over 9 miles of singletrack trails and hope to get the total over the 10 mile mark this Winter and keep going!

There is also some trail building in the works for SME and trail design for the Trexler Game preserve.

Word Gets Around, And The Word Is Good

I mentioned this at yesterday's trailwork session...

Before heading to Sals I grabbed breakfast at my usual weekend place in Easton, where I overheard the owner and two customers talking about "mountain biking behind St Lukes."

So, I butted into the conversation -- "You ride over there? I helped build those trails! I'm going over there for trailwork right now!"

Long story short: Yes they ride over there, they raved about how good the trails are and thanked us for the work we did building them. Needless to say, I was pretty psyched.

Bikes and cars: Sharing the road in Portland
At a time when two-wheeled transportation is rapidly growing in popularity among Portlanders, the deaths of two bicyclists in October have put a new focus on conflicts between cars and bikes. The Oregonian staff hit the streets last week to document how cyclists and motorists are managing the daily commute — and what they can do to avoid collisions.
