High Rock/Ralph Stover State Park

High rocks is open!

Went out to High Rocks Sun 4/28 after my ride at Nox. Sometime in the last few weeks the rest of the trails were opened up, even the sections up by the campground. The entire system is open for the first time since September.

It's a good way to get a little gnarl in after the buttery smooth goodness at Nox ...

Rangers handing out tickets.

Recently, county rangers have been handing out tickets and court dates to riders and park patrons attempting to do trail work at HR. (Post Hurr. Sandy) Not sure if any civilians have permission to be in there with chainsaws etc. Also note, within the HR trail system there are both county and state sections. County rangers appear to patrol both. The trail heads closest to the campground are closed and expect to get a ticket if you get caught there.

Post-Sandy ride report

I was definitely expecting some downed trees when I headed out to High Rocks Sun morning Nov 11. It's worse than I imagined. I started at the High Rocks parking lot and took the lower trail our to the campground. Although there are a number of hike-a-bike sections, I rode more than I walked. The major destruction started at the campground and continued most of the way along the 'high road' trail that runs along the top of the ridge back toward the High Rocks lot. Lots of big trees down, collapsed in a domino effect pattern.

"Forest Restoration" signs at highrocks?

Was over at highrocks today, and there was a bunch of "Forest Restoration" signs tacked up the trail head. It said a few more words then "Forest Restoration" but that was the main gist of it and is all I can remember. I wish id taken a picture to post up, but I did not. So anyone have any ideas what this "Forest Restoration" consists of?

Feature \ Structure building at Highrocks

Highrocks is my local trail and its where I do most of my riding. I think it would be great if there were some ladder bridges, boardwalks or whatever you want to call them here and there. There is some sweet stuff at Spring Mt and places like that and it would be fun to have some at highrocks, within reason of course, just regular 2x4 stuff. It would at least be more sturdy then some of the rock and log buildups...... Does anybody have any thoughts on this?

Near Death Experience at High Rocks

This rookie has learned a valuable lesson today. Do not go riding in high winds. I was standing about 15' away from where this tree fell over the trail. :jawdrop: It was on the long climb at high rocks coming up from the creek. My heart was already pumping like hell climbing that trail but when this thing fell next to me my heart rate doubled. Careful out there everyone.

Beautiful Day at High Rocks

A wonderfull day hitting the trails at high rocks. I forgot how much fun they are. Some really nice drops, log rides a bunch of interesting technical sections and some really fast downhills. Even ran into VMB'r velochic, aka Hope. She was enjoying the nice weather on her bike as well... and for some odd reason everyone who rides a bike there knows kool kenny... I wonder why??? If anyone ever wants a guide let me know! I'm always game
