I dont know if I am blowing this whole dozer thing out of proportion, but I was hiking up there yesterday above the shale face, where the dozer now sits, at the end of another dirt superhighway that it created, and was blown away. This path resembles anything but singletrack and from an environmental footprint perspective, we are ripping this land up pretty bad. It is a section thru the AO, just like the trail head (which came out beautifully by benchcutting). I dont know how we are going to make this 8 foot wide trail, into a fun and flowy singletrack.
What are IMBA guidelines on track dozers? Something just doesnt seem right when I see this trail. Sorry, I have no pictures but imagine the jeep trails and service roads the parks people put in. It looks like that.
I am fully aware that doing this by hand takes much, much longer but we need to do it right.
Also, people keep complaining to me that they have read either in the paper or on this webiste that we have anywhere from 3 to 10+ miles of trail DONE up there and when they go up to ride it there is less than a mile. I hope this doesnt create bad publicity.
