600th Annual Tice-Medellin Thanksgiving Morning MTB Ride
Here it is folks!! The event you've all been waiting for. The 600th (yes I said 600th) Annual Tice-Medellin Thanksgiving Morning MTB Ride. The longest running MTB ride in the western hemisphere!!
Come on out Thanksgiving morning to ride South Mountain and be part of history. This ride was mainly a native American affair for many years until a flyer advertising the ride was inadvertently distributed at the Spanish court of Isabella and Ferdinand. Many claimed that Columbus was looking for a sea route to India when he discovered the new world. NOT SO - he was actually trying to get to the Thanksgiving ride at South Mountain.
This ride continues to attract many national and international leaders including some of the current Republican candidates for president. Donald Trump has promised to build a wall around South Mountain to keep out all the illegals. Cris Christie has already sent his regrets - he says he'll be stuck in a spontaneous traffic jam.
And of course we'll have our famous pre-ride activities.
* Watch Rich Chug - always a crowd favorite. Place bets on how long Rich can chug beer without vomiting (editors note: due to the caustic nature of Rich's digestive system this event has been moved into a sealed steel dome to keep spectators safe - last year's plastic tent was woefully inadequate as evidenced by all the 3rd degree burns on spectators. There will be closed circuit cameras transmitting all the action to various screens set up around the start area).
* Quiet Time With Bernie - see how long Bernie can remain quiet. We've tried this event in the past but our timing equipment has not proven up to the task. This year we'll be using an atomic clock that can measure times as short as one nanosecond (that's a billionth of one second) so we are reasonable confident we'll be able to measure the quiet time interval this year no matter how short (editors note: after meeting Bernie our technical expert now gives our new equipment only a 50/50 chance of success).
So don't miss out on this event. There's even talk that old man Tice will make an appearance.
9:00 a.m. meeting at the South Mountain Park parking lot on top of South Mountain across from the OLD Channel 39 offices. This is a social ride suitable for all abilities.
